A functional laundry room is the perfect blend of style and functionality. With a few key elements, you can create a space that looks great and makes doing laundry a breeze. Let’s get into it with these easy functional laundry room ideas.

Functional Laundry Room Folding Table

A folding table is one of the first things to consider when designing a laundry room. This is a great place to sort and fold laundry and provides additional counter space for other tasks.

A folding table in a laundry room has many benefits. It is a dedicated space for sorting and folding laundry, which can help keep the rest of the room organized and clutter-free. Moreover, a folding table made from natural materials, like wood or metal, adds a warm and inviting feel to the room. Natural materials are also durable and easy to clean. Folding tables also save space in a small laundry room. They are easily folded up and stored when not in use. Many models are also lightweight and easy to move around, so you can reposition the table as needed.

In addition, folding tables come in many different sizes, styles, and designs. Some models have built-in storage, which can be useful for storing laundry supplies or other items. Others feature adjustable height settings, which can be convenient for people of different heights.

We added two folding tables in our laundry room design to ensure ample space for folding, even with real-life clutter. The first folding table is made of a simple board that we have placed over the tops of the washer and dryer. This provides a convenient space for folding clothes and other laundry tasks.

Functional Laundry Room Drying Rack

Another important element in any laundry room is a drying rack. It is essential in any laundry room as it allows you to dry clothes naturally. Drying racks come in various materials, including traditional wooden, modern metal, or plastic, allowing you to choose one that best suits your style and space.

Traditional wooden drying racks are often made from durable and sturdy materials such as bamboo or cedar. They are often foldable and can be stored away when not in use. They add charm to your laundry room and blend in with various decor styles. Modern metal or plastic drying racks are often more compact and lightweight, making them easy to move around and store. They can also be adjusted to different heights and have different configurations to suit your drying needs. Some are more affordable and come in a variety of colors.

A drying rack can be a great way to save energy and money. Specifically, it allows you to dry clothes naturally without needing an electric dryer. It also allows you to dry delicate items, such as wool sweaters, that should not be put in a dryer.

Additionally, a drying rack done rights adds a charming addition to any laundry room. Check out how we used simple metal piping painted black and secured to the wall to get laundry drying racks without taking up space in the room.

Laundry Room Open Shelving

Open shelving is another great addition to a farmhouse-style laundry room. Not only does it provide a place to store laundry detergent and other supplies, but it also adds a rustic touch to the space. Look for shelves made from natural materials, such as wood or metal, and consider adding baskets or canisters to keep items organized.

In our case, we used some decorative brackets and cut and stained wood to match the folding tables. The open shelving creates a place to add decorative but functional touches.

Hidden Storage

In addition to open shelving, hidden storage is an excellent option for a laundry room. This includes a cabinet or a set of drawers that can be tucked away when not used. Hidden storage keeps the space neat and tidy while providing a place to store laundry essentials.

We incorporated hidden storage areas in our laundry room design to keep the space organized and clutter-free. One of these features is a fold-up ironing board that we have designed to fold and hide within a cabinet door. This allows us to keep the ironing board out of sight when it is not in use while still being easily accessible when we need it.

Additionally, we installed a laundry shoot behind the cabinetry. This keeps the laundry pile out of sight but still easily accessible, and the design allows us to keep the laundry room looking neat and tidy.

We also created extra storage for laundry baskets, laundry supplies, and even the hot water tank behind cabinet storage. This allows us to keep these items out of sight but still easily accessible when needed.

Functional Laundry Room Decorating

Decorating a farmhouse-style laundry room can be a lot of fun. One of the best ways to add a touch of charm to the space is by using canisters with wool drying balls, clothespins, and dryer scents. These items not only serve a practical purpose, but they also add a rustic touch to the space.

Laundry Room Canisters

Laundry room shelving decorated using canisters filled with wool dryer balls, antique clothes pins, and laundry beads is an easy way to add style and functionality to your laundry space. Canisters made from clear glass will showcase eco-friendly dryer balls. Furthermore, antique clothespins add a touch of nostalgia to the space. Finally, laundry beads provide a pleasant scent and natural softening to your laundry. This combination of elements adds a stylish and functional touch to your laundry room and makes it eco-friendly.

Wool Drying Balls

Wool drying balls, also known as dryer balls, are a natural and eco-friendly alternative to traditional fabric softeners. They are made from 100% wool, a renewable and biodegradable resource. The balls are typically felted and then rolled into a compact shape, which makes them durable and long-lasting.

When added to a dryer load of laundry, the wool balls help to fluff and separate the clothes, allowing hot air to circulate more effectively. This can reduce the time and energy required to dry a load of laundry. The balls can also help reduce static and soften clothes without the use of harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrances found in traditional fabric softeners.

The wool balls are also reusable and can be used for hundreds of loads of laundry, making them a cost-effective option. They are also easy to clean and maintain, simply by washing them with mild soap and air-drying.

Decorating with Functional Laundry Supplies

Linen sprays are another great way to add a touch of charm to a farmhouse-style laundry room. These sprays are easily stored in pretty bottles and are used to freshen up linens and clothes. They come in various scents and add a pleasant aroma to clothing and the space.

Finally, using pretty pump jars to store laundry soap can add a touch of charm to the space. These jars can be placed on open shelving and serve as a functional and decorative element in the laundry room. It is easy to add style to the space and keep the laundry soap within reach.

Plant Life

Another great way to add a touch of charm to a laundry room is by decorating with plants. Not only do plants add a touch of greenery to the space, but they also help to purify the air. Some great options for laundry room plants include succulents, herbs, and even small citrus trees.

However, if you don’t have a green thumb or don’t want to take care of live plants, you can also opt for faux plants. These artificial plants are made to look like the real thing but don’t require any maintenance and still add a touch of greenery to your laundry room. The choice is yours.
